Fat Injections (Lipostructure) Q & A
What is autologous fat grafting?
Fat grafting corrects volume loss in the face – a common sign of the aging process. Fat may be removed from one part of the body and placed into the face in lieu of a synthetic product or implant. The fat is commonly harvested from around the belly button. Fat harvested from your own body has a decreased risk for unwanted reactions. Facial fat grafting may be used alone or in combination with surgeries like facelift or necklift to achieve a more balanced and symmetrical facial appearance.
What happens during the fat grafting procedure?
Facial fat grafting procedures are performed under sedation or general anesthesia. Before the procedure, the treatment area will be evaluated to determine the best placement for the fat grafting in order to achieve optimal results. The fat is harvested and then gently processed with high quality techniques to collect the optimal fat cells. The isolated fat is then injected through small incisions in the skin using small cannulas. The fat is placed in multiple, thin aliquots throughout the face to achieve overall improved fullness and balance. The cannulas reduce the risk of bruising and adverse reactions. Dr. Archer uses platelet-rich plasma treatments to help stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal and speed recovery time for her patients.
How soon will I see the results?
Results will be visible right away, but the final result will not become apparent until swelling completely resolves in a few weeks.
